Spaced repetition gardening

Looking into spaced repetition recently, not to become a hyper-optimized übermensch (looking at you, Hacker News), but to keep my dumb brain working and try to learn things easier.

The first thing I want to try to get into is language learning, particularly Spanish. I live in Phoenix, and not being able to talk to such a huge contingent of the people here, especially when they’re under government-sanctioned oppression, is just flat-out bad. I mostly have the bones of the grammar from high school, so I think some vocab would go a really long way.

Second, I’ve heard mention of spaced repetition for conceptual learning. One thing you could do with that is learning about new areas of study or whatever, but it could also be interesting to write up “cards” for more mundane things. Like, irregular work tasks, or irregular home maintenance things. (Also, maybe even yoga poses lol, I am always forgetting those.) I’m incredibly slow at figuring out how to do lots of things, and at retaining that information. It might be handy to have some of that more readily available in my noggin.

Finally, spaced repetition might be a cool thing for my own site here? Not to try to “learn” my own thoughts, but mostly for maintenance and revision purposes. I really would like to go back to some stuff and revisit or revise or reiterate it, but I just never make the time for that.
