No algorithm (for real for real)
This post (https://notes.jeddacp.com/social-medias-highlight-reel/), and in particular the comment about needing to choose to visit the site, raises an interesting point about discoverability and automated surfacing of information.
Even on the Fediverse, while there isn’t an “algorithm”, there is an automated, and even that matters. I’m not inherently anti-algorithm—I think getting presented with stuff outside your expectations can be magical and revolutionary—but I wonder if there’s times when it’s better if it doesn’t all just get fed to you. If even an RSS kills the humanity.
When does the friction make things worthwhile (see that other post from today I think? The Hunt?)? When does it make them unnavigable?
